Sustainability

      right from the start …

Sustainability through Resource Conservation

As a responsible company, Alpha Calcit places great importance on the careful use of natural resources. At the core of our daily operations, in addition to the highest quality standards for our mineral filler products, is the support of sustainability through resource protection.

Through targeted measures, we succeed in utilizing material waste from rock extraction in selected Alpha Calcit product lines with 100% pre-consumer recycled content. Our latest generation of certified, natural calcium carbonates CALCILIT® ECO G and ECOCARB® KA accordingly embraces the core idea “Sustainability from the very beginning” .

A perfect way to optimally prepare the end products in many application areas of construction chemistry, plastics, and paints & coatings from the very beginning for a sustainable product cycle.

Our philosophy:

For us, sustainability is not a marketing buzzword, but a technological mission. We make a strict distinction between traditional recycling and our specialized use of pre-consumer raw materials.

Why we have consciously chosen this path:

Unlike post-consumer materials (waste from end consumers), our raw materials come directly from our own production cycle. Our strict selection process results in up to 60% waste. We do not consider this high-quality material to be waste, but rather a valuable resource.

 Your advantages at a glance:

  • Material purity: Since the material has never been in circulation in external production and product applications, it is free of foreign substances.
  • Consistent quality: The technical properties are almost identical to those of primary raw materials.
  • Genuine efficiency: We drastically reduce the need for new raw materials by getting the most out of the material already invested.

We close the loop where the quality is highest: directly in production.

Making sustainability performance assessable –

EcoVadis Scorecard

The EcoVadis rating is a globally recognized standard for corporate sustainability performance. Its primary purpose is to make corporate social responsibility (CSR) measurable and comparable in global supply chains.

The methodology is based on international standards such as ISO 26000 and the UN Global Compact. Four core areas are assessed:
  • Environment: Energy consumption, emissions, water, waste.
  • Labor and human rights: health protection, working conditions, diversity.
  • Ethics: Combating corruption, fair competition.
  • Sustainable procurement: Responsible dealings with suppliers.

By participating in this annual assessment process, we can identify weaknesses in internal processes more precisely, reflect on them, and optimize them accordingly. This creates a basis of trust and transparency for close cooperation along the entire supply chain.

The scorecard provides partners with detailed insight into sustainability management without having to conduct their own audits each time.

Sustainability through Packaging Cycle

On the important topic of packaging, Alpha Calcit has been pursuing a clear course towards a circular economy for many years. Therefore, our products are transported either loosely as bulk material, in reusable kraft paper bags, or recyclable Q-Bags.

To systematically reduce packaging volumes, the Alpha Group relies on the RepaSack take-back system from Interzero Circular Solutions and Rigk.

Working together toward net zero: Sustainable logistics with HVO 100

For us, sustainability is not just a buzzword, but an active commitment to the environment and to our customers and partners. In order to drastically reduce the ecological footprint of our logistics chain, 85% of our transport partners already use HVO 100 (hydrotreated vegetable oil).

What is HVO 100?
HVO 100 is a renewable diesel fuel produced from biogenic residues and waste materials such as used cooking oils. Unlike conventional diesel, it is a fossil-free fuel that is chemically almost identical to fossil diesel but has a significantly better carbon footprint.

Your advantages as our customer:
Our use of HVO 100 directly benefits your own sustainability balance sheet:

  • Drastic CO2 reduction: HVO 100 can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over the entire life cycle (“well-to-wheel”). With an 85% utilization rate, we achieve a significant reduction in transport-related emissions for your shipments.
  • Improving your Scope 3 balance sheet: For processing companies, emissions from logistics are part of indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3). Our green logistics division helps you achieve your own climate targets faster and support your sustainability reporting (CSRD) with hard facts.

Participation in the Rigk System for Packaging

Since Alpha Calcit products are classified as “non-hazardous,” the packaging units used for delivery can be returned to Rigk easily and free of charge after cleaning.

The return is carried out via collection points organized by Rigk and is recycled in an environmentally friendly manner in accordance with the provisions of the Circular Economy Act (KrWG). In this way, the Alpha Group makes an important contribution to the resource-saving recycling of packaging materials.

Interzero Certificate for Alpha Calcit

In addition to participating in Rigk, the Alpha Group takes part in the Interzero circular economy program “RepaSack”. The RepaSack take-back system ensures that kraft paper bags are professionally recycled and returned to the material cycle.

The annually awarded Interzero certificate confirms Alpha Calcit’s achievements: It documents the specific primary raw materials and CO2 emissions saved through packaging recycling and demonstrates a measurable contribution to improving the CO2 footprint, as a further contribution to resource conservation and supporting the concept of sustainability in awareness of Alpha Calcit’s ecological values.
